Latent Data
Latent Data is a technical consultancy through which I help organisations build software, develop digital products, and improve operational efficiency through thoughtful use of data and automation. I’m a software engineer with over 20 years’ industry experience and work directly with teams to tackle complex technical challenges from strategy through to delivery.
I specialise in:
- Technical consultancy — providing strategic advice on architecture and system design, shaping product roadmaps, supporting offshore team management, and leading implementation
- Rapid prototyping — exploring ideas, building proofs of concept, validating assumptions, and demonstrating what’s possible to gather early feedback and de-risk investment
- Technical due diligence — conducting independent assessments of technical and digital architectures, team capabilities, and organisational delivery risk
- Automation and AI adoption — identifying pragmatic opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity, using AI where it meaningfully supports business outcomes
I work across a wide range of technologies and data types, bringing a holistic view of the technical landscape. A particular strength lies in working with complex, content-heavy and unstructured data, where careful system design and automation can unlock significant value — whether through new products, better decision-making, or more efficient operations.
I collaborate with a trusted network of partners, allowing me to scale delivery for larger engagements or bring in specialist expertise when required. My focus is always on helping organisations make informed, strategic decisions about how best to apply technology to real business problems.

Current Role — Fractional CTO
I am currently acting as Fractional CTO for All In Images, where I am responsible for defining the end-to-end technical architecture of the image delivery platform, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and responsible use of technology. This includes designing the systems that support image ingestion, metadata management, delivery, and integration with downstream products and partners.
In parallel, I am leading the development of the AI image generation model and its associated training pipeline. This work spans data curation and labelling, model selection and experimentation, training and evaluation workflows, and the tooling required to safely iterate and improve model performance over time.
Alongside this, I work closely with the founding team to translate product vision into a clear technical roadmap, providing both strategic and hands-on guidance. The focus is on delivering meaningful value early, while establishing strong technical foundations to support long-term growth.
Previous Work
Before founding Latent Data, I led a range of technical and AI-focused projects across publishing, legal services, and digital product development. A selection of this past work is included below to illustrate the type of challenges I now help clients solve independently. These examples reflect my individual experience prior to Latent Data and do not represent engagements delivered by the company.
Award-winning AI product development
Working closely with the editorial team at the Bone and Joint Journal, I developed an AI podcast generation tool to transform research articles into engaging audio content.
Using an innovative agentic workflow, the team were able to produce podcasts with a consistent structure, duration, tone, and style while maintaining editorial control over the final output. “AI Talks with Bone and Joint” won the ALPSP Award for Innovation in Publishing 2025.
AI implementation review
Drawing on our experience delivering six AI solutions over the past 18 months, I provided an independent review of the architecture, technical approach, and implementation of a novel AI application designed to streamline the annotation of complex legal documents. Our recommendations included:
- Delivering value early by targeting low-hanging fruit for automation
- Identifying bottlenecks by introducing an observability framework
- Allowing analysts to author and experiment directly with prompt variations
Bespoke data analytics prototype
Developed a data visualisation interface for a UK publisher, demonstrating the value of their automated PIO labelling capabilities and securing funding for further product development.
Collaborated with subject-matter experts to define the desired narrative, selected technologies within the client’s existing stack, and built a complex ETL pipeline to transform long-form content into a structured, queryable dataset.
